Role Summary/Purpose The washing machine design engineering position is an integral role in the design, development and implementation of highly efficient and reliable washing machines with superior performance for the General Electric Company. The position will closely interact with other engineers along with manufacturing and commercial teams to understand all consumer queues in an effort to design and produce new and innovative products that lead the market. The use of skilled engineering analysis and judgment with a strong desire to exceed customer expectations in every way is paramount to position success.
Essential Responsibilities -Function as a design engineer in a team setting responsible for developing optimized solutions around cost and performance for the washing machine drive system. -Innovate new high efficiency washing machines with respect to energy and water usage while maintaining leading positions in wash performance and reliability. -Work closely with the manufacturing and commercial teams from product concept to production implementation. -Develop and evaluate multiple drive system design concepts with the use of engineering analysis, rapid prototyping techniques and general hands-on skills. -Test and evaluate GE as well as competitor drive systems to identify best practices in design, manufacturing and performance. -Utilize SolidWorks or Pro/Engineer to perform component and subsystem design. -Work with multiple suppliers to ensure proper material selection as well as process applicability. -Utilize statistical tools to ensure robust design in high volume manufacturing and assembly application. -Occasional International and/or Domestic travel required.
Qualifications/Requirements -BS degree in Mechanical Engineering.-Minimum 10 years design experience in consumer products, automotive, or other related industry.-Experience designing, testing and implementing transmission drive systems including fractional horse-power motors, belts, gears, pulleys and bearings.-Experience designing parts with SolidWorks, Pro/Engineer, or other software.-Experience in using a dynamometer to evaluate motor characteristics.-Fluent use of Microsoft Excel, PowerPoint and Word software packages.-Solid written and oral communication skills.-Move to Louisville, Kentucky or surrounding area full time.
